Description

Zenato Valpolicella Superiore 2022

This is Valpolicella with a bit more depth and confidence, without losing its easy, smooth charm. Zenato keeps it clean and dependable: fruity, gently spicy and very drinkable, yet clearly a step up from the basic style. Perfect when you want an Italian red that simply delivers.

Tasting Note

Colour

Bright ruby red with a subtle purple hue.

Nose

Ripe cherry and redcurrant, joined by plum, a hint of violet, and a savoury layer of black pepper, bay leaf and a light almond-like note.

Palate

Dry and supple, with more concentration than a standard Valpolicella. Plenty of juicy red fruit, a touch of darker fruit, fine spice and a soft, rounded frame. Fresh acidity keeps it lively, tannins stay gentle, so it drinks easily without feeling flat.

Finish

Medium length and fresh, with cherry, spice and a small bitter twist that keeps it authentically Italian.

Food Pairing

Great with pasta ragù, pizza with spicy salami, grilled chicken, veal, or a simple ossobuco. Also lovely with mushroom risotto or aged hard cheeses. And honestly, it’s a brilliant glass alongside a charcuterie board.

Producer

Zenato is one of Veneto’s trusted names, known for wines that do exactly what they promise: clean, well-made and consistently high in quality. This Valpolicella Superiore shows how elegant and flavourful the region can be when you add a bit more selection and ageing—without making the wine heavy.

Zenato

Zenato is a family-owned winery from Veneto in northern Italy, founded in 1960 by Sergio Zenato and his wife Carla Prospero. From their home near Lake Garda, they gradually built a wine estate centred on a love of their craft, curiosity and respect for the region. Sergio was always willing to look beyond established conventions. He recognised the potential of vineyards and wine regions that were still developing and combined tradition with an open-minded view of the future.

Over the years, the family expanded its activities into the hills of Valpolicella. In this way, Zenato developed into a winery that expresses different sides of Veneto while allowing each area to retain its own identity. Today, the company is continued by the next generation, building on the same family values. The family remains closely involved in both the vineyards and winemaking and continually seeks a balance between experience and innovation. This personal approach and strong connection to the region form the recognisable foundations of Zenato.
