Description

Negro Dina Barbera d'Alba 2024

This is Barbera the way you want it: juicy, upbeat, and with enough snap to keep it from feeling simple. No heavy, oak-driven showpiece—just an honest bottle you can happily open on a weeknight or pour alongside a proper meal. One glass and you remember why Barbera is such a crowd-pleaser.

Tasting Note

Colour

Deep ruby red with a purple sheen.

Nose

Plenty of red and dark fruit—cherry, plum and blackberry—alongside violets, a touch of liquorice, and a fresh lift of blackcurrant and herbs.

Palate

Dry and smooth, with that signature Barbera brightness keeping everything juicy. Ripe cherry and plum lead, followed by gentle spice and a soft, rounded frame. Tannins are mild, acidity brings energy, and it all drinks effortlessly without being boring.

Finish

Medium length and fruity, with a fresh cherry note and a subtle spicy edge.

Food Pairing

Spot-on with pasta in tomato sauce, oven pizza, lasagne, meatballs in sugo and grilled sausages. Also great with charcuterie, hard cheeses and mushroom-based dishes. This is one of those wines that doesn’t just handle tomato and herbs—it actually loves them.

Producer

Negro crafts approachable Piedmont wines in a classic, fruit-first style, with lively freshness and plenty of drinkability. Dina is their dependable Barbera d’Alba, delivering exactly what you want from the grape: energy, juiciness and a consistently reliable character.

Angelo Negro

Angelo Negro is a historic family-owned winery from Roero in Piedmont, Italy. Old municipal records show that the family already owned a house, wine cellar and vineyards here in 1670. At the beginning of the twentieth century, Angelo Negro, locally known as Angelin, worked from a modest farm with only a few hectares of land. The following generation decided not only to cultivate grapes, but also to produce its own wine and establish a dedicated cellar.

From the 1980s onwards, the winery gained increasing recognition, first in Italy and later internationally. By acquiring additional vineyards, the family expanded from the hills of Roero into other parts of the Langhe. Today, the estate comprises almost seventy hectares across a variety of soils and microclimates. It remains firmly family-run. Its long connection to the region is reflected in an approach that places local grape varieties, individual vineyard sites and the distinctive identity of Piedmont at the heart of its work.
