Alto Moncayo Veratón 2020

The Alto Moncayo Veratón 2020 is a powerful yet remarkably approachable Garnacha from Campo de Borja. This wine bridges the gap between the intensity of Alto Moncayo and the extreme concentration of Aquilón. Veratón combines ripe fruit, spice, and structure with an appealing smoothness, making it both impressive and highly drinkable.

Tasting Notes

Colour

Deep ruby red with purple hues.

Aroma

Intense and open aromas of ripe cherry, blackberry, and plum, complemented by sweet spices, cocoa, black pepper, and a subtle oak note.

Taste

Full-bodied and powerful with flavours of dark fruit, chocolate, and spice. The tannins are ripe and well integrated, while fresh acidity brings balance and energy. Rich, yet never heavy, with a strong sense of harmony.

Finish

Long and warming, with lingering fruit, spice, and a refined, smooth finish.

Food Pairing

Excellent with grilled meats, lamb dishes, barbecue, stews, and medium to strongly aged cheeses. Also benefits from decanting.

Producer

Bodegas Alto Moncayo is one of the leading producers in Campo de Borja, renowned for wines made from very old Garnacha vines. The winery combines power with precision, crafting wines of international stature while remaining true to grape variety and origin. Veratón perfectly demonstrates how intensity and drinkability can coexist.

Bodegas Alto Moncayo

Bodegas Alto Moncayo is a Spanish winery from Campo de Borja in Aragón. It was founded in 2002 with a clear ambition: to reveal the quality that the old Garnacha vineyards at the foot of Mount Moncayo are capable of producing. From a small and specialised beginning, the estate developed into an internationally respected producer while retaining its strong focus on the region and a single local grape variety.

The winery works with approximately 120 hectares of old vines spread across the slopes surrounding Mount Moncayo. The vineyards occupy different elevations and are exposed to dry summers, cold winters and the powerful cierzo wind. Poor, stony ground encourages the roots to grow deep and naturally limits yields. Much of the vineyard work is carried out by hand, after which the wines are given ample time to develop in the cellar. Alto Moncayo has consequently played an important part in building international appreciation for Garnacha from Aragón.
