Château Tauzinat l’Hermitage
Château Tauzinat l'Hermitage is one of the oldest wine estates in the area. The château was built in 1670 by order of a high-ranking French naval officer. The name Tauzin comes from a species of oak, famous for the truffles that grow near its roots. As early as 1889, the wines of Tauzinat l'Hermitage were awarded at the Paris wine fair. This Saint Emilion Grand Cru was purchased by Bernard Moueix in 1953 and his daughter Catherine is responsible for this pleasant winery today. It lies between the villages of Saint Christophe des Bardes and Saint Hippolyte, east of Saint Emilion. The vineyard measures some nine hectares and is planted 85% with merlot and 15% with cabernet franc. The average age of the vines is 30 years and the planting density is 6,000 vines per ha. The vines take root in a combination of clay with limestone.
