Olivero Mario Bricco Ambrogio Barolo 2019

The Olivero Mario Bricco Ambrogio Barolo 2019 is a refined red wine from Piedmont, Italy. It is made from 100% Nebbiolo grapes sourced from the Bricco Ambrogio vineyard in Roddi, a unique hill that is part of the Barolo appellation. The vineyard is located at an altitude of 275 meters, with a southeast-facing orientation and silt-rich soil, contributing to the wine’s complexity.

The grapes are hand-harvested between late September and early October, carefully selected, then destemmed and crushed. Fermentation starts spontaneously within 48 hours without the addition of selected yeasts and lasts approximately two weeks at a controlled temperature of 27-28°C. During this period, frequent pump-overs and pigeage are performed to optimize aroma extraction and structure.

After fermentation, the wine matures for 20 months in French oak tonneaux, followed by at least 12 months of bottle aging before being released to the market. The production is limited to approximately 1,200 to 1,300 bottles per year, making this Barolo an exclusive wine.

Tasting note

Nose

Floral aromas of rose and violet, combined with fruity notes of cherry and subtle hints of spices.

Palate

Full-bodied and well-balanced, with elegant oak nuances that enhance the floral and fruity characteristics. The present tannins provide structure and complexity.

Finish

Long and refined, with lingering notes of maraschino cherry, spices, and a slight minerality.

Food pairing

This Barolo pairs excellently with dishes such as:

  • Red meat (grilled or braised)
  • Game dishes like venison or duck
  • Roasted or slow-cooked meat dishes
  • Aged hard cheeses and blue cheeses
  • Dark chocolate (for a surprising pairing)

The firm tannins and vibrant acidity ensure that this wine complements complex, flavorful dishes and will develop beautifully with bottle aging.
