Miltonduff 10 years Discovery
The Discovery range is the perfect introduction to independent bottler Gordon & MacPhail's portfolio, offering single malt whiskies from some of Scotland's leading distilleries. Each bottling within this series falls within the flavour profiles of 'Sherry' (purple label), 'Smoky' (grey label) or 'Bourbon' (green label). The 10-year-old Miltonduff has undergone a full maturation in sherry casks and gives great value for money. Always interesting to buy a whisky from a relatively unknown distillery (after all, there is little single malt from this distillery available on the market), while the flavour profile will appeal to many people. It does mature in the much-loved sherry casks, but it is not a 'sherry bomb' with the likelihood that such a bottle will also quickly become boring again. Miltonduff has many faces, from light and floral to powerful and spicy. This bottling in the Discovery range shows the gentle side of the distillery. We therefore place this whisky in the 'mild and refined' category. This single malt will appeal to many people; an ideal malt for this time of year.
Tasting note
Colour
Amber.
Nose
Chocolate and orange marmalade transition into juicy, stewed sultanas. Sweet baked apple and freshly cut grass provide a delicate balance to the rich sherry influences.
Taste
Sweet and spicy, butter candy intertwined with toasted hazelnut, closely followed by orange zest, cinnamon and mouth-warming plum and fig jam.
Finish
Long with highlights of chocolate and stewed fruit, ending with lingering winter spices.
More information about Miltonduff Distillery
The distillery is located in Speyside, southwest of the town of Elgin, on the banks of the River Black Burn. Its name comes from the village of the same name. Originally a monastery, founded by King Alexander II in 1230. The distillery was built around 1824 and Miltonduff is said to stand on the site of this abbey's flour mill. One of the abbey's original stones is still proudly displayed. Most production disappears into the Ballantine's blend and only a very small proportion is bottled as single malt by independent bottlers. Miltonduff also produced another single malt called Mosstowie from 1967 to 1981, using a so-called Lomond still.
