Big Peat's home in The Netherlands!

Founded nearly 70 years ago, Douglas Laing & Co is today a leading maker and supplier of the finest Scotch whiskies, with a specialization in Single Casks, Single Malts and Small Batch Malt Scotch whiskies. Founded in 1948 by Fred Douglas Laing, the company is still owned and run by the Laing family, today in the persons of Fred Laing Jr and his daughter Cara Laing.

Douglas Laing's business philosophy is to bottle as the distiller intends: That is, at high strength and non-chill filtered, so that the robust and unique character of the whisky is preserved. Douglas Laing's reputation and the many awards they have managed to achieve over the years are testament to this ethos. The fine portfolio of

Douglas Laing brands includes:

Douglas Laing brands includes:

Exceptional Single Casks

Provenance forms the "base series" of Exceptional Single Casks. These whiskies have ages ranging from approximately 6 to 14 years old. In addition, each bottle is bottled at 46%. The Provenance series offers an accessible, excellent introduction to the fascinating world of Single Cask Single Malt Scotch Whiskies. The name 'Provenance' means as much as 'provenance'. As indicated earlier, 'provenance' imparts unique characteristics to the whisky's aroma and taste.

The Old Particular series is Douglas Laing's flagship brand. A special series featuring individually selected single malt and single grain Scotch whiskies from across Scotland. The distinctive age is 14 years and/or older. Old Particular is bottled at 3 different alcohol strengths: 48.4%, 51.5% and Natural Cask Strength.

Douglas Laing's XOP is the "big brother" of the Old Particular. Only the very best barrels are considered for the XOP series. Think of the old, rare premium whisky barrels. In other words, the crown jewels of Douglas Laing! The bottle is packaged in a luxurious, wooden gift box, the neck is dipped in wax and each bottle is individually numbered. All this as a tribute to the antique Single Malt and Single Grain whisky in the bottle.

Remarkable Regional Malts

Big Peat
( islay )

The name speaks volumes; Big Peat is a hearty Islay Malt with a sweet side as well.

This whisky combines a heavy smoky, salty, aka ash-like selection of malts exclusively from the magical whisky island of Islay. Ardbeg, Caol Ila, Bowmore and (even the now closed) Port Ellen are in this fine blend of Single Malts.

The Epicurean
( lowlands )

The Epicurean tells a story of a well-to-do but somewhat 'cheeky' man from Glasgow who richly enjoyed good food and drink.

A true gourmet in optima forma. The Epicurean is a blend of the finest Lowland Malts of Scotland.

The Gauldrons
( Campbeltown )

The Gauldrons is a Campbeltown "vatted" malt and the sixth addition to Douglas Laing's Remarkable Regional Malts series. The Gauldrons is inspired by the dark and sandy bays on Campbeltown's west coast.

Literally translated, The Gauldrons means; 'bay of storms'. It was in this glorious dark stormy bay that King Robert the Bruce was defeated by his enemies before, legend has it, he was inspired by a spider who managed to build his complex web in peace, by trying again and again.

Rock Island
( Islands )

This whisky is a tribute to the sea. Rock Island is a blended malt whisky created using the finest Island Single Malts such as Jura, Islay, Arran and Orkney.

Breaking open an oyster is rewarded by finding a pearl. However the true treasure here is found in the hidden, flavorful refinement, rich in the scents of the sea. Bottled at 46.8% alcohol strength, traditionally without restocking and 'chill-filtering', this little gem has a maritime character; rich in sea salt, sweet peat, smoke, honey and pepper.

Scallywag
( Speyside )

Scallywag is a blended malt made with only the finest Speyside Malts, including Mortlach, Macallan and Glenrothes.

This whisky has a distinctly rich, dark color thanks to the many fine Spanish Sherry Butts in which the whisky has matured. The result is a very charming malt with a richly spiced character, combined with vanilla (from the bourbon casks used), sweet stewed fruit, Christmas pudding, dark chocolate and sweet tobacco.

Timorous Beastie
( Highlands )

The original Timorous Beastie, immortalized in a famous Scottish poem called "To a Mouse," was a small, shy field mouse.

In contrast, this whisky is not for wimps! This non-cold filtered 'vatted malt' bottled at 46.8% alcohol strength is a combination of carefully selected Highland Malts - distilled at, among others, Glen Garioch, Dalmore and Glengoyne.
