Ardbeg Core Range

Ardbeg has created a monster.... Ardbeg Wee Beastie has aged for only 5 years, making it the untamed 'enfant terrible' of the whisky world. Where most single malts seek the smoothness and balance of a more mature age, we know that more time in the barrel tempers the smokiness that so many whisky lovers seek. The name is a combination of the Scottish adjective 'wee' (small), with 'beastie' (little creature with a much bigger attitude), and denotes a creature that is a little mischievous and wild, a touch ferocious and uncontrollable, but in an engaging way. That's the whisky... Five years old, but incredibly powerful and with a solid 'bite'.

Fans of smoky whisky take note... At the heart of the Ardbeg distillery, the Gathering Room is the large Gathering Barrel, specially created from French oak, in which Ardbeg An Oa (pronounced 'and oh') is created. This smoky, sweet, round single malt is inspired by the most untamed part of the rugged Scottish island of Islay. It is the first new permanent addition to Ardbeg's core range in nearly a decade.

There have been many outstanding Ardbeg whiskies over the years, but connoisseurs and enthusiasts continue to return to the brand's oft-awarded core, the Ten Years Old. An immediate success with whisky connoisseurs and turf enthusiasts worldwide at its launch in 2000, Ardbeg Ten Years Old has not left the top spot since. This heavily peated whisky (50 ppm phenols) has a surprising 'peaty paradox'. An additional reflux mechanism on the still gives the whisky a fruity-sweet lightness and purity that provides perfect balance. An intense and long-lasting pleasure for the senses!

Ardbeg Uigeadail (oog-a-dal) is a special blend in which the distillery manager blends various Ardbeg malts of different ages and upbringings. The malts used are matured partly in American oak bourbon casks and partly in Oloroso sherry casks, bringing together Ardbeg's traditional deep smoky notes with sensual, raisin-sweet aromas. The brilliantly layered whisky is named after Loch Uigeadail, the lake on Islay from which Ardbeg gets its water. Uigeadail is Gaelic for "dark and mysterious. Ardbeg Uigeadail is the favorite expression of the 120,000-plus members of the Ardbeg Committee.

Ardbeg Corryvreckan is the untamed 'spirit' of Islay! The whisky is named after the third largest whirlpool in the world, just north of Islay and Jura. Swirling aromas and streams of deep, tart, peppery flavors lurk just beneath the surface of this exceptional dram. The core of Corryvreckan is aged in new French oak. These spicy, sweet seductive notes blend very well with the Ardbeg Ten Years Old, aged in ex-bourbon barrels. Like the whirlpool, Ardbeg Corryvreckan is not for the fearful among us!
