GlenDronach 41 years 1972 - 2013 Single Cask #702

Since 2007, The GlenDronach has presented a series under the name: Single Cask whiskies. Batch 9 was launched in December 2013 and this 41-year-old Single Cask Whisky was the oldest release from this batch.

True to their tradition, The GlenDronach primarily uses carefully selected sherry casks hand-crafted at renowned sherry bodegas from southern Spain (Jerez de la Frontera and Sanlúcar de Barrameda)

Origin and bottling

Distilled on 28 February of the year 1972 and finally bottled in October 2013 after a maturation of over 41 years. This Single Cask Whisky is the perfect example of craftsmanship from this renowned Highlands distillery.

After very careful selection, cask 702 was selected and finally bottled at cask strength without colouring and filtering. This has resulted in 448 bottles of liquid gold.

Cask type

This single cask whisky has spent over four decades on an Oloroso Sherry Butt. This cask has allowed this GlenDronach to gain unparalleled depth and enormous complexity.

Tasting Notes according to GlenDronach

Appearance

Rich dark oak edged with deep ruby.

Nose

Sumptuous depths of classic sour cherries dusted with gentle toasted almonds. Delicate orange blossom and warm spices freshen the rich sherry influence.

Palate

A beautifully elegant vintage sherry style bursting with a combination of dark espresso, molasses, lively herbs and oak spices. Dried fruits and soft waves of walnut add a subtle balance to this classic expression.

Glendronach Distillery

Glendronach Distillery is located in the valley of Forgue, near Huntly in Aberdeenshire, in the Scottish Highlands. Founded in 1826 by James Allardice, Glendronach is one of the oldest legal distilleries in Scotland and is known for its rich tradition and craftsmanship.

A specific feature of Glendronach is its strong focus on maturing whisky in ex-sherry casks. This gives the whiskies their distinctive deep, complex and fruity flavour profiles, with notes of dark chocolate, dried fruit, honey and spices. The distillery uses water from the Dronac Burn, which contributes to its unique flavour.

Glendronach uses traditional copper pot stills and a slow distillation process, ensuring a rich and full-bodied spirit. Glendronach's whiskies are known for their elegance and depth, with a long, warming finish.

Glendronach Distillery remains a highly respected name among whisky lovers for its dedication to quality and tradition and its production of exceptionally balanced Highland single malts.
