Frapin Cognac Cellar Master Edition No1 Edition 2024 Special bottling for the Netherlands
The Frapin Cognac Cellar Master Edition No. 1 (2024) is a special edition, exclusively bottled for the Netherlands, with a limited edition of only 600 bottles. Selected by cellar master Patrice Piveteau of the house of Frapin, this cognac is a single cask bottled at cask strength, without filtration or cold treatment, adding to its authentic character.
This cognac has aged for more than 10 years in Limousin oak barrels in the ‘Chai François Rabelais,’ a humid cellar that ensures a round and smooth flavour development. With an alcohol content of 46.5%, it retains a robust and full-bodied character. The flavour profile initially offers notes of oak and vanilla, followed by floral and fruity accents such as apricot, citrus and plum, with subtle spices. The mouthfeel is lively and balanced, with a long, complex finish typical of Frapin cognacs.
Tasting note
Nose
The nose opens fresh and aromatic, with pronounced notes of oak and vanilla resulting from aging in new Limousin oak barrels. As the cognac opens up, floral scents emerge, evolving into fruity accents such as apricot, ripe plums and citrus. A subtle spiciness is also present, adding depth to the aromatic profile.
Taste
On the palate, the cognac starts lively and well-balanced, with a fresh attack. Flavours of apricot and citrus emerge strongly, along with a hint of ginger. The body is rich and round, typical of cognacs from the Grande Champagne region. The warm and full texture gives a pleasant mouth-filling experience.
Finish
The finish is long and elegant, with recurring notes of fruit and a hint of spice. The cognac's complexity continues to unfold, with a harmony between sweetness and spiciness characteristic of its prolonged ageing and the influence of the humid cellar climate.
Frapin
The cognac house Frapin is a family business that has been involved in cognac production for more than 20 generations. Located in the Grande Champagne region of Cognac, the heart of the best cognac region, Frapin is one of the few producers that has full control over the entire production process: from grape growing to distilling and maturing the cognac.
History
Frapin has been associated with viticulture since 1270, making them one of the oldest and most renowned names in the world of cognac. The estate where Frapin is based, Château Fontpinot, is located in Segonzac, in the centre of the Grande Champagne region. This region is known as the ‘Premier Cru de Cognac’ because of the exceptional quality of the soil and microclimate, resulting in very refined and elegant cognacs.
Production process
Frapin uses only grapes from their own vineyards, ensuring complete control over quality. They only use Ugni Blanc grapes, which are particularly suitable for distilling cognac. What makes Frapin special is that they double distill their cognacs on the lees, which ensures extra richness and complexity in flavour. Their cognacs are then aged in Limousin oak barrels, which are known for their influence on the development of vanilla and wood tones in the cognac.
