Description
Jean Fillioux Très Vieux XO Extra is a classic Grande Champagne Cognac from the family-owned La Pouyade estate. This assemblage of eaux-de-vie aged for approximately 25 years initially spends several years in new oak casks, followed by prolonged maturation in older wood. Bottled at 40%, it is a rounded and beautifully mature Cognac combining candied fruit, vanilla and exotic notes with gentle spices and refined rancio.
Tasting note
Nose

Full and enticing, with pear jam, ripe banana and orange marmalade. Quince, peach and apricot are complemented by vanilla, honey, orange blossom and a touch of old port.

Palate

Rounded, mellow and pleasantly full, with candied orange, ripe pear and very ripe melon. Mango and passion fruit provide an exotic touch, while praline, vanilla, honey and refined oak add further richness.

Finish

Long, supple and elegantly spicy, with candied citrus, ripe yellow fruit and vanilla. Gentle pepper, cinnamon, nuts and developed rancio linger with refinement.

Jean Fillioux

Cognac Jean Fillioux was founded in 1880 by Honoré Fillioux, a technically gifted winegrower and distiller who even developed a system to improve temperature control during distillation. In 1894, he acquired Domaine de La Pouyade in the heart of Grande Champagne. His son Jean expanded both the vineyards and the reserves of ageing cognac while introducing the estate’s bottles to markets beyond France. Under his name, the family property developed into the Jean Fillioux cognac house, which is now continued by the fifth generation.

The estate owns approximately 25 hectares of vineyards in Grande Champagne, the premier cru of the Cognac region. Its chalk-rich soils produce elegant eaux-de-vie with floral aromas, refined fruit and excellent ageing potential. The family oversees every stage, from growing the grapes and distillation to maturation, blending and bottling. Carefully selected French oak casks and extended ageing bring notes of flowers, ripe fruit, vanilla, almonds and spice, with refined rancio emerging in the oldest releases. Jean Fillioux is separate from the branch of the Fillioux family that supplied generations of master blenders to Hennessy and remains an independent family estate with a distinctive style of its own.
