Remi Landier Cognac #41 "Les Champs Fruités (Lot 72/73/74 FB) - Malternative Belgium
This release represents a remarkable expression of the Fins Bois terroir, with an extraordinary balance between fruity intensity and refined waxiness rarely found in contemporary cognacs. By bringing these three vintages together (micro-vatting) in precisely the right proportions, a cognac was created that unites the best of both worlds: the abundant fruitiness, the fruit varieties representative of the region, perfectly balanced by the complex waxiness and minerality of the other vat. The result is a bottling that is extremely intriguing, revealing new facets with every sip.
Label explanation
The label features a unique artistic interpretation of the rolling hills of the Fins Bois landscape, but with a creative twist. Instead of the traditional vines, the vineyards are depicted with various fruits, cleverly referencing the intensely fruity character of this cognac. This creative deviation from reality symbolizes the fruit-driven profile of this particular bottling while simultaneously paying tribute to the characteristic terroir of the Fins Bois cru.
Tasting note
Nose
An extraordinary bouquet opens with intense waves of ripe orchard fruit - yellow plums, quince, and sun-ripened pears. The distinctive waxy character is immediately present, reminiscent of beeswax and paraffin, drawing fascinating parallels with those legendary Clynelish single malts from the 1970s. Underneath are delicate floral notes of acacia honey and white flowers, complemented by subtle hints of candied citrus peel.
Taste
The remarkable waxy texture luxuriously coats the palate, carrying waves of concentrated fruit essences. Fresh apricots, Mirabelle plums, and ripe peaches. But also a farmy-style grassiness. The high alcohol content is perfectly integrated and offers a rich and complex mouthfeel without overwhelming heat. Subtle oak spices and a hint of vanilla add depth and structure.
Finish
Exceptionally long and evolving. The waxiness remains while fruit tones slowly transform into more dried variants. Hints of old leather, beeswax furniture polish, and delicate rancio emerge in the very last notes. A masterful demonstration of the character of aged Fins Bois.
