HD 28 years 1997 - 2025 #01 The Many Faces of Rum 6th Anniversary Bottling
This special 6th Anniversary bottling from The Many Faces of Rum celebrates The Whisky Jury’s milestone with a rare cask from the legendary Hampden distillery in Jamaica. Distilled in 1997 and bottled in 2025 after twenty-eight years of maturation at 59.6% from a refill barrel, this is a true unicorn among rum casks. Only a handful of sister barrels from this batch have ever been found, and The Whisky Jury secured the fourth — a dream for lovers of authentic, high-ester Jamaican rum.
Tasting Notes
Nose
A captivating burst of aromas. Ripe pineapple, banana, overripe mango and candied citrus leap from the glass, accompanied by glue, petrol, olives and a faint smoky note. There’s a subtle savoury edge — grilled pineapple, a touch of broth — that adds remarkable depth. As it breathes, layers of resin, green apple and sugarcane emerge. A constantly evolving nose that captures Hampden’s signature funk and aged complexity to perfection.
Palate
Rich, powerful and exuberant. High-ester fruit takes the spotlight: pineapple, lychee and bright tropical citrus backed by petrol, brine, fermented fruit and olives. The texture is oily and dense, while the 59.6% ABV carries the flavours effortlessly. Beneath the fruit lie nuances of tar, spice and seasoned oak. The balance between intensity, maturity and freshness is extraordinary — every element in harmony.
Finish
Long, warm and vibrant. Glue, fruit, olives and light smoke linger, gradually giving way to gentle oak and resin. The finish seems endless, leaving behind layers of tropical funk, salt and sweetness that call for another pour.
A rare, complex and utterly mesmerising rum — the pinnacle of aged Hampden at its most expressive.
