Kanosuke Single Malt Whisky 5cl

Kanosuke Distillery was established in 2017 by Yoshitsugu Komasa on the coast of Kagoshima, on Japan’s southern island of Kyushu. The distillery builds on the heritage of the family-owned Komasa Jyozo company, which has produced sake and later shochu since 1883. Kanosuke is named after the second generation of the family, who introduced Mellowed Kozuru in 1957 as one of Japan’s earliest oak-aged shochus. This experience with distillation and cask maturation remains an important part of the distillery’s identity.

Production began in November 2017 and the first single malt appeared in 2021. Kanosuke operates three copper pot stills, each with a different shape and lyne arm angle. By using them individually, the distillery can create a broad range of spirit styles. Traditional worm tub condensers add further weight and structure.

The whisky matures in casks including bourbon, sherry and re-charred shochu wood. Strong seasonal temperature changes and the sea air beside Fukiagehama influence maturation. Kanosuke is known for a mellow yet layered style, with ripe fruit, citrus, honey, vanilla, spice and refined oak.
