Captain Morgan is one of the world's best known international rum brands and traces its origins to the 1940s, when Canadian drinks company Seagram expanded into rum production in Jamaica. The name refers to Sir Henry Morgan, the 17th century Welsh privateer who spent an important part of his life in the Caribbean. A Jamaican tradition of flavouring rum with herbs and spices helped provide the inspiration behind the brand.

Its major breakthrough came with Captain Morgan Original Spiced Rum, introduced in the early 1980s. In doing so, Captain Morgan helped turn spiced rum into an internationally recognised category. The brand combines rum with natural flavours and spices and has also developed white, dark and various flavoured expressions, often created with cocktails and mixed drinks firmly in mind.

Captain Morgan became part of Diageo in 2001 and subsequently developed into one of the largest names in the global rum category. Above all, the brand is known for its approachable spiced style and the unmistakable Captain who has become its iconic figurehead.
