Nose

Bacardí is one of the world’s best known rum brands and was founded in 1862 by Don Facundo Bacardí Massó in Santiago de Cuba. He spent years experimenting with fermentation, distillation, cask ageing, blending and filtration to create a lighter and more refined style of rum than was common at the time. Charcoal filtration in particular became important in achieving the clear and approachable house style for which Bacardí became famous.

The bat on the label also dates back to the original distillery. A colony of fruit bats lived in the roof and the family adopted the animal as a symbol of prosperity, health and family unity. From Cuba, Bacardí expanded internationally and established production facilities in Mexico and Puerto Rico. After the Cuban Revolution, its assets in Cuba were confiscated in 1960, but its international operations enabled the family business to continue producing rum.

Bacardí is particularly famous for white rum and its important role in cocktails such as the Daiquiri and Mojito. The range also includes gold, dark, aged and flavoured rums, giving Bacardí an exceptionally broad position within the international rum world.
