Description
Metaxa 7 Stars is a beautiful Greek spirit that offers just that little bit of extra refinement. This edition is slightly older and richer than the well-known 5 Stars, blending Muscat wines from the islands of Samos and Limnos with refined wine distillates and aromatic botanicals. The result is a warm, elegant drink perfect for special occasions - or simply to treat yourself. The extra maturity gives Metaxa 7 Stars a fuller body and deeper flavors. Wonderful to sip neat, but also excellent in stylish cocktails like a Metaxa Old Fashioned.

Metaxa

Metaxa is one of the best known Greek spirits in the world and was created by Spyros Metaxa in 1888. A few years earlier, he had acquired an old distillery in Piraeus, where he experimented with wine distillates and sweet Muscat wines. His aim was not to produce a traditional brandy, but to create a distinctive Greek spirit of his own. By around 1900, Metaxa was already being exported to the United States and the brand gradually expanded far beyond Greece.

The distinctive identity of Metaxa is built around three elements: matured wine distillates, sweet Muscat wines from islands in the Aegean Sea and an aromatic blend of Mediterranean herbs and botanicals. These different components are selected and brought together by the Metaxa Master, with maturation and blending playing an important role.

In 1968, production moved from Piraeus to Kifissia near Athens, and Metaxa became part of Rémy Cointreau in 2000. Well known expressions such as Metaxa 5 Stars, 7 Stars and 12 Stars present the characteristic style at different levels of maturation and complexity. Metaxa therefore occupies a category of its own between wine distillate, matured spirit and Greek herbal tradition.
