Description
Château du Breuil VSOP is a refined Calvados from the heart of Normandy, produced by one of the region’s most respected houses. Aged for a minimum of four years in French oak casks, it achieves a perfect balance between fresh apple brightness and the mellow warmth of oak. The result is an elegant and inviting spirit that reflects centuries of Norman craftsmanship.
Tasting note
Nose

Fresh and lively with aromas of ripe apple, pear and vanilla. Subtle hints of caramel, cinnamon and light oak add depth and sophistication.

Palate

Smooth and rounded with flavours of baked apples, toffee and gentle spice. Notes of nutmeg, almond and vanilla from the oak create a warm, balanced character that remains distinctly fruity.

Finish

Long and soft with lingering tones of apple compote, caramel and light wood. Graceful and well-rounded from start to finish.

Château du Breuil

Château du Breuil is one of the best known producers of Calvados Pays d’Auge in Normandy. The historic château dates from the early 16th century, while its history as a distillery begins in 1954. That year, Philippe Bizouard, from a family with experience in Calvados production, acquired the estate and established his own distillery. The combination of orchards, expertise and extensive ageing cellars laid the foundations for Château du Breuil as a Calvados house.

The Calvados is produced from cider apples grown in the estate’s own orchards and the surrounding region. After the apple juice has fermented into cider, it is double distilled in traditional copper pot stills according to the regulations of the Pays d’Auge AOC. Maturation then takes place in oak casks, with blending and extended ageing forming important elements of the house style.

Château du Breuil offers a broad range, from younger Calvados to mature reserves and vintage bottlings. The house also explores additional maturation in casks previously used for other wines and spirits. Château du Breuil therefore combines classic Norman Calvados tradition with a curious approach to cask maturation.
