Tasting note
Nose
We don't have to wonder what type of cask was used for this, everything smells like sherry. Full-bodied, spicy, sultanas, dates, toasted nuts and more dark scents emerge from the glass.
Taste
Barrel strength, so the first sip is spicy, nice and spicy that is, because you can wake us up for this. The spicy, nutty character of hazelnut and roasted chestnuts slowly moves into dark red fruit. Some wet forest associations also come to mind when we taste this whisky.
Finish
Despite its thick sherry character and high alcohol content, we still call the finish elegant. Very long, though, but very refined.
More information
The Eilean Dubh "The Dark One" is the latest bottling from the Edradour distillery. Named after the Gaelic expression for "black island".
It owes its mahogany colour to maturation in former sherry casks. And as usual for "Scotland's Little Gem", the Eilean Dubh is neither coloured nor chill-filtered.
