GlenDronach 23 years 1990 - 2013 Single Cask #1243

Since 2007, The GlenDronach has presented a series under the name: Single Cask whiskies. Batch 9 was launched in December 2013.

True to their tradition, The GlenDronach primarily uses carefully selected sherry casks hand-crafted at renowned sherry bodegas from southern Spain (Jerez de la Frontera and Sanlúcar de Barrameda)

Origin and bottling

Distilled on 5 September of the year 1990 and finally bottled in October 2013 after a maturation of over 23 years. This Single Cask Whisky is the perfect example of craftsmanship from this renowned Highlands distillery.

After very careful selection, cask 1243 was selected and finally bottled at cask strength without colouring and filtering. This has resulted in 679 bottles.

Cask type

This single cask whisky has spent over two decades on a Pedro Ximenez Sherry Puncheon. This cask has allowed this GlenDronach to gain unparalleled depth and enormous complexity.

Tasting Notes according to GlenDronach

Appearance

Aged polished cherry wood.

Nose

Bursting with Muscovado, over-stewed prunes and plum sauce warmed with distant red chilli spice.

Palate

Dark chocolate fondant and rich Seville orange marmalade are warmed by a gentle white pepper spice which leads to the gentle sweet finish of rum raisin fudge.

Glendronach Distillery

Glendronach Distillery is located in the valley of Forgue, near Huntly in Aberdeenshire, in the Scottish Highlands. Founded in 1826 by James Allardice, Glendronach is one of the oldest legal distilleries in Scotland and is known for its rich tradition and craftsmanship.

A specific feature of Glendronach is its strong focus on maturing whisky in ex-sherry casks. This gives the whiskies their distinctive deep, complex and fruity flavour profiles, with notes of dark chocolate, dried fruit, honey and spices. The distillery uses water from the Dronac Burn, which contributes to its unique flavour.

Glendronach uses traditional copper pot stills and a slow distillation process, ensuring a rich and full-bodied spirit. Glendronach's whiskies are known for their elegance and depth, with a long, warming finish.

Glendronach Distillery remains a highly respected name among whisky lovers for its dedication to quality and tradition and its production of exceptionally balanced Highland single malts.
