Teaninich 1975 Connoisseurs Choice 75cl

This Teaninich was distilled in 1975 and is believed to have been bottled in 1991. The bottler is well known and this is Gordon & MacPhail. They bottled this Teaninich in the Connoisseurs Choice series. This series has been around since the late 1970s and has changed labels regularly. Colloquially, this version is called 'old map label'.

Tasting note

Nose

The nose opens with a subtle sweetness, heather honey, followed by soft notes of dried fruit and a hint of fresh apple. There are light notes of oak and a hint of aromatic spices weaving through the sweeter scents.

Taste

On the palate, the whisky brings a nicely balanced mix of malt sweetness and spiciness. The texture is silky smooth and offers a rich palette of flavours, from juicy pears and citrus to a pleasant nut character. The wood influence is present without being overpowering and adds to the complexity with soft vanilla and hints of toasted almonds.

Finish

The finish is long and warming, with a slightly sweet and spicy character.

More about Teaninich Distillery

Teaninich Distillery is a Scottish whisky distillery located in the Highlands region, more specifically in Alness, which is about 20 miles north of Inverness. The distillery was founded in 1817 by Captain Hugh Munro on the land of his Teaninich Estate. Since then, Teaninich has grown into a major producer of single malt whisky.

Teaninich whisky is known for its somewhat spicy and grassy notes, and it is an important component in many blends. However, it is also available in single malt form, often bottled by independent bottlers such as Gordon & MacPhail. Gordon & MacPhail is a renowned company known for bottling a wide range of single malt whiskies from across Scotland.

It is notable that Teaninich is not very well known among the general consumer, as most of their production is used in blended whiskies, which reach a wider audience. Nevertheless, Teaninich's single malt can be highly appreciated by connoisseurs for its distinctive flavour profile.
