Tasting note
Nose
Sultanas fly out of the glass. We have no doubts about the barrel type, as the elegant sherry character immediately makes the corners of our mouths move upwards. Dark chocolate, walnuts, hint of paint but of course in the most positive sense of the word. Rich scent that you don't really find in present-day whiskies anymore.
Taste
This is Strathisla as we like to taste it. Rich, full, firm, sherry, sultanas, figs, dates and a good dose of wood, but all within the lines. This is what we mean by balance. This Speyside Single Malt is completely balanced.
Finish
This aftertaste could have been quite a bit longer from us. Mid-long we'll call it.
Important information
Gordon & MacPhail has launched several 30-year-old Strathisla whiskies. Two are known to have this label and were bottled in 2004 or 2005.
The bottle code on the bottle is JE/BBD and, according to WhiskyBase, this brings us to the version bottled in 2005.
