With notes of tropical fruit, mineral elements and a typical hint of Tomatin, this is bullseye. It reminded me of official bottlings of Tomatin 1970.

Tomatin Distillery

Tomatin Distillery is located at the foot of the Monadhliath Mountains, just south of Inverness in the Scottish Highlands. Founded in 1897, Tomatin has a rich history and is one of the highest-ranking distilleries in Scotland. Over the years, the distillery has developed into a major producer of single malt whisky.

A unique feature of Tomatin is the use of local water from the Alt-na-Frith Burn, which contributes to the pure character of their whiskies. Tomatin is known for its smooth and fruity whiskies, with notes of apple, pear, vanilla and a hint of spice. The whiskies are mainly matured in a mix of ex-bourbon and sherry casks, ensuring a rich and balanced flavour.

Tomatin has a strong focus on quality and craftsmanship, which is reflected in their extensive range of single malts and limited editions. The combination of historic traditions, a unique location and high-quality whiskies makes Tomatin a respected name in the world of Scotch single malt whisky.

The Roots

The Roots is a Belgian independent bottler founded in 2022 by whisky enthusiast Joren Nuyts. After many years of discovering, tasting and collecting whisky and other spirits, he decided to turn his passion into a bottling brand of his own. The name represents a return to the essentials: respect for provenance, craftsmanship and the natural qualities of each spirit.

At The Roots, quality clearly takes priority over quantity. Only casks that immediately convince through balance, character and flavour are considered worthy of the label. The first releases already demonstrated this broad interest: an old Invergordon single grain whisky, a Prunier Cognac and a Bellevue rum. Scottish single malts, Irish whiskey, Armagnac and other distinctive spirits followed.

Bottlings are released in small quantities and presented as purely as possible: at natural colour, without chill filtration and preferably at cask strength. The numbered editions and carefully designed labels give each bottle its own identity. The Roots therefore appeals to enthusiasts who look beyond familiar names and value remarkable casks with a clear story and an individual character.
