Glen Albyn Distillery
Glen Albyn Distillery was located on the banks of the Caledonian Canal in Inverness, in the Scottish Highlands. Founded in 1846 by James Sutherland, a local businessman and mayor of Inverness, the distillery had a strategic location that benefited from its proximity to waterways for transport.
A specific feature of Glen Albyn was the use of water from Loch Ness, which contributed to the unique flavour profiles of their whiskies. The distillery had a turbulent history with several closures and re-openings, especially during the economic depression and both World Wars. Finally, Glen Albyn closed for good in 1983 and was later demolished.
Glen Albyn whiskies were known for their light and delicate character, with subtle notes of flowers, orchard fruit. The whisky was mainly matured in ex-bourbon casks, which ensured a smooth and balanced flavour. Despite the distillery no longer existing, Glen Albyn whiskies remain sought-after among enthusiasts, collectors and investors because of their rarity and the unique history they represent.
