Glendronach Ode to the Ember – Sherry & Smoke
Glendronach is renowned for its luscious sherry-matured whiskies, and with "Ode to the Ember – Sherry & Smoke", the distillery introduces a smoky dimension to its classic profile. This limited edition combines the rich influence of Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez sherry casks with a gentle, glowing peat smoke reminiscent of dying embers. The result is an intense, sultry and layered dram – a perfect tribute to the warmth of a glowing fire.
Tasting Notes
Nose
Deep aromas of stewed red fruits, dark chocolate and sherry sweetness, intertwined with bonfire smoke, leather and spiced oak.
Palate
Full-bodied and mouth-coating with rich notes of raisins, figs, caramel and a touch of espresso. The smoke is earthy and enveloping, well-integrated with hints of nutmeg and cinnamon.
Finish
Long and warming with a velvety fade of dried fruits, ash, cocoa and a soft smoky glow that gently lingers.
Glendronach Distillery
Glendronach Distillery is located in the valley of Forgue, near Huntly in Aberdeenshire, in the Scottish Highlands. Founded in 1826 by James Allardice, Glendronach is one of the oldest legal distilleries in Scotland and is known for its rich tradition and craftsmanship.
A specific feature of Glendronach is its strong focus on maturing whisky in ex-sherry casks. This gives the whiskies their distinctive deep, complex and fruity flavour profiles, with notes of dark chocolate, dried fruit, honey and spices. The distillery uses water from the Dronac Burn, which contributes to its unique flavour.
Glendronach uses traditional copper pot stills and a slow distillation process, ensuring a rich and full-bodied spirit. Glendronach's whiskies are known for their elegance and depth, with a long, warming finish.
Glendronach Distillery remains a highly respected name among whisky lovers for its dedication to quality and tradition and its production of exceptionally balanced Highland single malts.
