Glendronach Ode To The Valley – Sherry & Port Casks
This special expression from Glendronach, Ode to the Valley, pays tribute to the heart of the Speyside region and the craftsmanship for which the distillery is renowned. Matured in a combination of sherry and port casks, it embodies the rich, dark, and fruity style beloved by Glendronach fans. A whisky for those who seek depth, complexity, and a classic sherry profile with a twist.
Tasting notes
Nose
Deep aromas of raisins, plums, and ripe black cherries, with hints of dark chocolate and roasted nuts. A gentle spicy warmth lingers in the background, with notes of cinnamon and leather.
Palate
Full and rich on the tongue. Dark berry jam, stewed figs, and a touch of orange zest. The port cask influence brings a smooth sweetness, while the sherry casks add structure and depth. A touch of espresso and clove round it out beautifully.
Finish
Long and warming. The finish lingers with notes of cocoa, oak, and a subtle touch of black pepper. Elegant and complex to the end.
Glendronach Distillery
Glendronach Distillery is located in the valley of Forgue, near Huntly in Aberdeenshire, in the Scottish Highlands. Founded in 1826 by James Allardice, Glendronach is one of the oldest legal distilleries in Scotland and is known for its rich tradition and craftsmanship.
A specific feature of Glendronach is its strong focus on maturing whisky in ex-sherry casks. This gives the whiskies their distinctive deep, complex and fruity flavour profiles, with notes of dark chocolate, dried fruit, honey and spices. The distillery uses water from the Dronac Burn, which contributes to its unique flavour.
Glendronach uses traditional copper pot stills and a slow distillation process, ensuring a rich and full-bodied spirit. Glendronach's whiskies are known for their elegance and depth, with a long, warming finish.
Glendronach Distillery remains a highly respected name among whisky lovers for its dedication to quality and tradition and its production of exceptionally balanced Highland single malts.
