Glendronach Ode To The Dark – Pedro Ximénez Sherry Casks
Glendronach Ode To The Dark is a deep and mysterious single malt whisky, matured in rich Pedro Ximénez sherry casks. These sweet, velvety casks lend the whisky an intense character with layers of dark fruit and warmth. This expression is a true delight for fans of bold sherry-matured malts, striking the perfect balance between power and elegance. An ode to the dark – one worth exploring.
Tasting notes
Nose
Enticing aromas of dried dates, figs, and dark chocolate, followed by notes of molasses and spiced oak. A hint of espresso and warm caramel adds depth and richness.
Palate
Full and creamy on the palate, with rich flavours of raisins, mocha, dark chocolate, and candied orange. The Pedro Ximénez influence delivers a deep sweetness, balanced beautifully with spice and roasted nuts.
Finish
Long, warm, and luxurious. Notes of dark cocoa, spiced raisins, and a soft touch of leather linger gracefully. An elegant and dark finale.
Glendronach Distillery
Glendronach Distillery is located in the valley of Forgue, near Huntly in Aberdeenshire, in the Scottish Highlands. Founded in 1826 by James Allardice, Glendronach is one of the oldest legal distilleries in Scotland and is known for its rich tradition and craftsmanship.
A specific feature of Glendronach is its strong focus on maturing whisky in ex-sherry casks. This gives the whiskies their distinctive deep, complex and fruity flavour profiles, with notes of dark chocolate, dried fruit, honey and spices. The distillery uses water from the Dronac Burn, which contributes to its unique flavour.
Glendronach uses traditional copper pot stills and a slow distillation process, ensuring a rich and full-bodied spirit. Glendronach's whiskies are known for their elegance and depth, with a long, warming finish.
Glendronach Distillery remains a highly respected name among whisky lovers for its dedication to quality and tradition and its production of exceptionally balanced Highland single malts.
