Wolfburn Distillery
Located on the outskirts of Thurso, in Caithness, in the north of Scotland, Wolfburn Distillery is the northernmost distillery on the Scottish mainland. Originally founded in 1821 by William Smith, the distillery was inactive for many years until it was revived in 2013 by a group of whisky enthusiasts.
A unique feature of Wolfburn is its use of traditional craftsmanship combined with modern techniques. The distillery uses water from the nearby Wolf Burn, which contributes to the purity and freshness of their whiskies. Wolfburn whiskies are known for their smooth, slightly smoky flavour profiles with notes of fruit, honey, spices and a subtle maritime influence.
The whiskies are mainly matured in a mix of ex-bourbon and sherry casks, ensuring a balanced and complex flavour. Wolfburn produces both unpeated and lightly peated whiskies, providing a wide range of flavours that appeal to both traditional and modern whisky lovers.
Wolfburn combines a historic location with modern innovation, making it a unique and respected name in the world of Scotch whisky.
