Bunnahabhain 31 Years – The Kinship Edition No. 3 – Hunter Laing
This Bunnahabhain 31 Years from Hunter Laing’s prestigious The Kinship series (Edition No. 3) showcases the gentler side of Islay in all its refined glory. Drawn from a carefully selected cask and bottled at 46.9%, only 253 bottles of this stunning single malt were released. After more than three decades of maturation, it delivers a rare level of depth and elegance. No peat blast here – just a layered symphony of fruit, nuts, spice and coastal finesse, bringing both calm and richness to the glass.
Tasting Notes
Nose
Dried apricot, walnut, honey and beeswax, with a touch of salinity and gentle spice. Followed by notes of orange peel, old books and warm oak.
Palate
Full, silky and complex with flavours of toffee, raisins, roasted nuts and a hint of clove. Maritime notes linger softly, alongside dried fruits and a touch of tobacco.
Finish
Long and refined with warm spice, sea salt, soft oak and a creamy sweetness fading into an elegantly dry conclusion.
Bunnahabhain Distillery
Bunnahabhain Distillery is located on the remote north coast of the island of Islay, at the mouth of the river Margadale. Founded in 1881 by the Islay Distillery Company, Bunnahabhain stands out for its unique approach to whisky production on this island known for its peat-smoked whiskies.
A specific feature of Bunnahabhain is that it produces mainly unpeated whiskies, unlike most other Islay distilleries. This results in a smooth, complex whisky with subtle maritime influences. Bunnahabhain whiskies are known for their elegant flavour profile, with notes of fruit, nuts and a slight saltiness.
The peated Bunnahabhain single malts are marketed under names such as Toiteach A Dhà, Staoisha, Moine and are also very well received among aficionados.
The distillery uses water from the Margadale Spring and matures its whiskies in a combination of bourbon and sherry casks, creating rich and versatile aromas. Bunnahabhain whiskies are often described as smooth and approachable, with a distinctive refinement.
With a strong emphasis on traditional production methods and a commitment to quality, Bunnahabhain remains a respected name in the world of Scotch single malt whisky.
