Annandale Rare Vintage 2014 Man O' Sword Cask 106
In 2014 Annandale produced 85 casks of peated Man O’ Sword. A small number of these casks were bottled at just over 3 years of age, capturing that never-to-be-repeated moment in time when the first of Annandale’s spirit transitioned into Single Malt Scotch Whisky……and superb it is too (see Jim Murray’s 2019 Whisky Bible)! You can become one of very few Scotch Whisky lovers to own a bottle of Annandale Distillery’s first peated Single Malt for 100 years.
Tasting Notes:
Soft smoke at first, a mixture of log fire, toasted biscuit and Darjeeling tea. This gives way to a mixed tropical fruit with nectarine, melon and mango. There’s underlying creaminess with vanilla, honey and a note of burnt orange with resinous wood. The finish is long with sweet honey and vanilla. Peat smoke and leather return at the very end.
A well balanced, complex whisky. The peat flavours of smoke, tea and toast are well matched with mixed tropical fruit, cream and a long, honeyed finish.
Annandale Distillery
Annandale Distillery is located in Annan, Dumfries and Galloway, in the south-western Lowlands of Scotland. Founded in 1836 by George Donald, it was one of the first distilleries in the region. After several owners and a period of closure from 1924, the distillery was revived in 2007 by Professor David Thomson and Teresa Church.
Combining historic charm with modern techniques, Annandale uses traditional copper pot stills and retains the original stone buildings, adding to the authentic ambience. A notable feature is the production of both peated and non-peated whiskies, called "Man o' Sword" and "Man o' Words", in tribute to Robert the Bruce and Robert Burns. In addition, Annandale uses refill casks and new oak casks to develop diverse flavour profiles, resulting in whiskies with rich, complex flavours and a strong regional identity.
