Benromach 10 Years
Benromach is a Speyside distillery that doesn’t fit the usual soft Speyside stereotype. Its style often carries a touch of smoke, a firm malty core and a more old-school character than you might expect. The 10 Years is the classic introduction to that profile, balancing fruit, sherried depth and subtle smokiness. Expect a versatile whisky with orchard fruit, vanilla and gentle sherry notes, supported by soft smoke and spiced oak.
Tasting Notes
Nose
Fresh and layered with apple, pear and a touch of lemon. Vanilla, light caramel and toasted oak follow, with a gentle wisp of smoke and a hint of dried fruit.
Palate
Rounded and full with malt, honey and ripe fruit. Subtle smoke adds depth, while toffee, a touch of orange peel and spiced oak bring structure. There’s also a gentle nutty note that broadens the profile.
Finish
Medium to long with lingering soft smoke, fruity sweetness and warming spice. It fades slightly dry with oak and a clean malty warmth.
Benromach Distillery
Benromach Distillery is located on the outskirts of Forres in the Speyside region of Scotland. Founded in 1898, the distillery has had an eventful history, with several closures and re-openings. In 1993, Benromach was revived by Gordon & MacPhail, a renowned independent bottler, and was completely refurbished before returning to production in 1998.
A unique feature of Benromach is its dedication to traditional production methods. The distillery uses water from the nearby Romach Hills, which contributes to the authentic flavour of their whiskies. Benromach whiskies are known for their light smokiness, a rarity in Speyside, with flavour profiles combining notes of fruit, chocolate, spice and a subtle smoke.
The whiskies are mainly matured in a combination of ex-bourbon and sherry casks, ensuring a rich and balanced flavour. The combination of traditional techniques, unique flavour and rich history makes Benromach a respected name in the world of Scotch single malt whisky.
