Dallas Dhu 1979 - 2013 Licensed Bottling

Dallas Dhu 1979 – 2013 Licensed Bottling is a beautiful and rare single malt from a distillery that has been silent since 1983. Released 34 years after distillation, this whisky is part of the official “Licensed Bottling” range, launched by Historic Scotland and the owners at the time to share some of the remaining casks with the world.

Tasting Notes

Nose

Elegant floral notes with honey, light vanilla and soft fruitiness of pear and apple, supported by a gentle grainy sweetness.

Palate

Smooth and refined with hints of honey, light spice, citrus and creamy maltiness. Subtle almond and touches of dried fruit also come through.

Finish

Long and delicate, with lingering notes of fruit, gentle spice and a subtle dry oaky touch.

A whisky that perfectly reflects the classic, elegant Speyside character of Dallas Dhu and represents a true piece of history in the glass.

Dallas Dhu Distillery

Dallas Dhu Distillery, located in Forres in Speyside, is a name that sparks fond memories for whisky enthusiasts. Built in 1899 by Alexander Edward, a visionary who also played a role in establishing other renowned distilleries, Dallas Dhu was designed from the very beginning to produce a soft, fruity Speyside spirit, primarily destined for blending.

The distillery’s history was a turbulent one. Throughout the 20th century, Dallas Dhu changed ownership several times and faced closures due to economic downturns, wars, and shifting market demands. In 1983, production ceased for good. Yet instead of being demolished, Dallas Dhu was given a new lease of life: it was transformed into a museum, now managed by Historic Environment Scotland. Today, visitors can still walk through the preserved still house and warehouses to experience what a traditional Scottish distillery looked like in the past.

Bottlings from Dallas Dhu are now rare and highly sought after by collectors and connoisseurs. Known for their elegant, floral character with a delicate balance of fruit, honey, and gentle spice, Dallas Dhu whiskies represent a journey back in time to a distillery that embodied the very essence of Speyside craftsmanship.
