Glendullan Distillery

Glendullan Distillery is located on the banks of the River Fiddich in the charming town of Dufftown, in the Speyside region of Scotland. Founded in 1897 by William Williams & Sons, Glendullan is one of seven distilleries in Dufftown, often described as the "whisky capital of the world". The distillery was rebuilt in 1972 to increase production capacity, and since then two separate distilleries have operated on the same site.

A unique feature of Glendullan is the use of water from the Conval Hills, which contributes to the purity and character of their whiskies. Glendullan whiskies are known for their mild and fruity flavour profiles, with notes of apple, pear, vanilla and a subtle hint of spice. The distillery uses traditional copper pot stills and a slow distillation process, which ensures a balanced and refined spirit.

The whiskies are mainly matured in ex-bourbon casks, ensuring a rich and complex taste experience. Glendullan produces mainly for the blended whisky industry but also as a single malt, Glendullan is appreciated worldwide for its consistency and quality. Berry Bros. & Rudd is one of the oldest and most respected independent bottlers in the world. The company was founded in 1698 and is headquartered in St James's Street, London. The family business originally began as a coffee merchant, but soon expanded into the wine and spirits trade. Today, Berry Bros. & Rudd is known for its high-quality whiskies, as well as a wide range of wines and other spirits.

History

Founded in 1698 by the widow Bourne, Berry Bros. & Rudd began as a shop selling coffee, tea and spices. Soon the shop became a meeting place for London's elite, and the company expanded into selling wine and spirits. Over the years, Berry Bros. & Rudd has built strong ties with the British royal family. The company is a court supplier and has received several royal warrants throughout its long history.

Glendullan was founded in 1897 by Aberdeen whisky blender William Williams & Sons. As Dufftown’s seventh distillery, it completed the famous group behind the saying, “Rome was built on seven hills and Dufftown stands on seven stills.” Its position beside the River Fiddich provided access to water and barley, as well as a private railway connection. By 1902, Glendullan whisky was already being supplied to the court of King Edward VII.

Glendullan became part of the Distillers Company Limited in 1925. To meet growing demand for malt whisky for blended Scotch, an entirely new distillery was built beside the original buildings in 1972. Both sites operated alongside each other for a period, until the old plant closed in 1985. Through later mergers, Glendullan became part of Diageo.

For many years, almost all of its spirit disappeared into blends and Glendullan remained largely invisible as a single malt. The Singleton of Glendullan later gave the distillery a clearer identity of its own. Large onion-shaped stills create a light and elegant Speyside spirit, with fresh apple, pear, honey, gentle nuts and mild spice as recognisable notes.

Berry Bros. & Rudd is one of Britain’s oldest and most distinguished wine and spirits merchants. Its history began in 1698, when the Widow Bourne opened a grocery shop on St James’s Street in London. During the nineteenth century, the company increasingly focused on wine and spirits, while the Berry name became permanently associated with the business. The Rudd family joined in the twentieth century.

Berry Bros. & Rudd also has an exceptionally long heritage in whisky. Its oldest known own-label cask bottling dates from 1853, making the company one of Britain’s oldest independent bottlers. In 1923, Francis Berry and Hugh Rudd also created Cutty Sark, a lighter blended Scotch that achieved considerable international success.
