Indri Trini - The Three Wood
Founded in 1967, Piccadily Distillery is located near Delhi in northern India, overlooking the Himalayan mountains. Since then, Piccadily has been one of the largest producers of alcohol in India. In 2010, it started building its own single malt whisky distillery, which started producing its own single malt whisky in 2012.
In Sanskrit, Indri stands for the 5 senses; smell, taste, touch, sight and sound. However, Indri is also where the distillery is located, near the river Yamuna through which the meltwater of the Himalayas flows. This meltwater is used by the distillery for production. Grain has been grown in that valley for hundreds of years, with the classic Indian 6 Row barley being excellent for distilling single malt whisky. After the barley is harvested by hand and fermented, milled and mashed, distillation follows in India-made pott stills.
Tasting note
Nose
Caramelised pineapple with dark vanilla, black tea and freshly ground nuts. After some rolling, the scents get a little warmer with mint, oak and cardamom.
Taste
Nicely balanced mouthfeel with flavours of white and brown spices, oak, cirtus fruit, toffee and cinnamon.
Finish
Long with a nice combination of fruit and deep spices where the tongue keeps feeling the spicy parts. Delicious.
