Smögen Distillery
Smögen Distillery is located on the west coast of Sweden, near the town of Hunnebostrand in the province of Västra Götaland. Founded in 2009 by Pär Caldenby, this small, artisanal distillery has quickly built a reputation for producing high-quality, full-bodied whiskies. Its coastal location offers a unique climate for maturing whisky, with fresh sea air and moderate temperatures.
A notable feature of Smögen is its focus on using heavily peated barley, resulting in whiskies with a distinctly smoky character. The distillery uses traditional copper pot stills which ensures a rich and complex flavour. Smögen whiskies are known for their deep, robust profiles with notes of smoke, fruit, spices and a hint of sea salt.
The distillery places a strong emphasis on craftsmanship and quality, with every step of the production process carried out by hand. Smögen produces single malts loved by whisky connoisseurs worldwide. The combination of a beautiful coastal location, traditional techniques and a strong focus on quality makes Smögen Distillery a respected name in the world of whisky.
Adelphi Distillery Limited
Adelphi Distillery Limited is an independent bottler of mainly Scotch Single Malt whiskies, known for its high quality and limited editions. Besides Scotch whisky, they sometimes make forays into other whisky countries, but rum and armagnac can also be found in Adelphi Distillery Limited's portfolio. The company has a rich history dating back to the 19th century and is today a respected name in the whisky world.
History and Origins
- Establishment: The original Adelphi Distillery was founded in 1826 in the Gorbals, a district in Glasgow, Scotland. The distillery produced a wide range of whiskies, both single malts and grain whiskies.
- Closure and revival: The original distillery closed in the early 20th century. In the 1990s, the Adelphi name was revived by Jamie Walker, a descendant of the original owners. Since then, Adelphi has focused on bottling high-quality, rare spirits.
