Penderyn Icons of Wales #10 - Yma o Hyd is a tribute to the unyielding Welsh spirit. This tenth edition in the 'Icons of Wales' series celebrates the patriotic anthem Yma o Hyd ("We're still here"), a symbol of cultural pride and perseverance. Like the song, this single malt is powerful, outspoken and deeply rooted in tradition. The whisky is matured in American rye casks, creating a wonderful balance between sweet fruitiness and spicy depth. An expression that is not only beautiful to drink, but also to be proud of.

Tasting Notes

Nose

Fresh and spicy with notes of green apple, cracked black pepper, vanilla, citrus oil, and a hint of clove.

Palate

Lively and elegant. Flavours of peach, toffee, cinnamon, dried herbs, and classic rye spiciness. Nicely balanced between sweet and spicy.

Finish

Medium length with peppery warmth, oak tones and a clean, dry finish.

Penderyn Distillery

Penderyn Distillery is located in the picturesque village of Penderyn, on the edge of the Brecon Beacons National Park in Wales. Founded in 2000, Penderyn is the first distillery to produce whisky in Wales in over a century, and has quickly established itself as a pioneer in the modern whisky industry.

A unique feature of Penderyn is the use of a specially designed Faraday still, developed by Dr David Faraday, a descendant of the famous scientist Michael Faraday. This unique still makes for a purer distillate and a lighter, fruitier flavour profile. The whiskies are mainly matured in carefully selected ex-bourbon and madeira casks, ensuring a rich and complex flavour.
