Quinta da Alorna Vinho Branco Especial 2024 'Vin de Viv'

This past January, Viviënne, invited by importer Bresser & Timmer, visited Quinta da Alorna. The purpose of this wine journey was to create a unique white wine from a variety of base wines. It quickly became apparent that the 2024 vintage had produced fantastic wines, so half the work had already been done by winemaker Martta Reis-Simoes (with, of course, a helping hand from Mother Nature). After selecting the grape varieties to be used, some fine-tuning was done by adjusting the percentages here and there. You can find the final blend composition below.

It was a truly educational experience, and we are very proud of the result. After four months, the wine has finally been bottled and we are excited to share it with you.

Composition of the Blend

25% Fernão Pires – This gives the wine its aromatic character.
Fernão Pires is a very old grape variety and one of the most widely planted in Portugal, especially in the Tejo and Bairrada regions. Its aroma is often highly fragrant, with hints of Muscat, yellow fruit, chamomile, and blossom.

25% Viognier – This adds structure and body to the wine.
A rising star among white grape varieties. Until recently, Viognier was only planted in the Northern Rhône (Condrieu), but nowadays it is found in many more regions. Viognier typically has plenty of body and alcohol, but low acidity. Its aroma is reminiscent of flowers, white fruits, apricot, and peach.

15% Arinto – This brings freshness and minerality to the wine.
Arinto creates elegant, mineral-driven white wines. It is one of Portugal's oldest indigenous grape varieties and is often used in blends. Its aroma suggests apple and lime, with beautiful acidity and minerality that lend the wine great elegance.

35% Alvarinho – This contributes tropical notes to the wine.
Alvarinho, the noble grape of the Atlantic coasts, enchants with its vibrant freshness and refined aromas of citrus and white blossom — a true expression of sun, sea, and craftsmanship.

More about the winery: Quinta da Alorna

Quinta da Alorna is a well-known winery in the Tejo region of Portugal with a rich history. Located northeast of Lisbon, Tejo is one of the country’s oldest wine regions. Quinta da Alorna was founded in 1723 and is named after the noble title of the family that owned the estate at the time.

The estate itself features an impressive historic manor house dating back to the 17th century. Quinta da Alorna stands out not only for producing wines but also for preserving and sharing the history and culture of the region. Over the centuries, the winery has been managed by various families and has undergone numerous innovations in both viticulture and winemaking.

Today, Quinta da Alorna specializes in a wide range of wines — red, white, rosé, and even dessert wines — made from both native and international grape varieties. The Tejo region is known for its fertile soil and favorable climate, making it an ideal location for wine production.

Quinta da Alorna owes its reputation largely to its high quality standards and innovative production methods, which have helped it build a loyal international customer base. Today, the wines of Quinta da Alorna symbolize the diversity and richness of Portuguese winemaking tradition.
