Delord Épopée Grande Eau de Vie
To celebrate the 130th anniversary of Maison Delord, this renowned house created an exceptional eau-de-vie: the Delord Épopée Grande Eau de Vie. This remarkable spirit pays tribute to Delord's craftsmanship and the dedication of the generations that built the family legacy. For this unique blend, some of the most extraordinary vintages from Delord's cellars were selected, including eaux-de-vie from 1900, 1938, 1973, 1974, and 2004. Each of these historic years comes together in a liquid time capsule.
Only 584 bottles of this exclusive release were produced worldwide. Just a handful made their way to the Netherlands, and we are proud to offer this exceptional creation. The Delord Épopée Grande Eau de Vie is both a rare collector's item and a masterpiece to savor – neat, as a digestif, or to mark a truly special occasion.
Tasting note
Colour
Deep amber with golden reflections. The extended aging and inclusion of historic vintages give this eau-de-vie a remarkable intensity, with a copper hue, stunning clarity, and slow, elegant legs in the glass.
Nose
Highly complex and refined. Aromas of candied fruits like figs, prunes, and apricots emerge first, followed by roasted nuts, delicate spices, and subtle notes of cigar box and aged leather. Gentle floral hints of dried flowers intertwine beautifully with honey, vanilla, and soft spices like cinnamon and nutmeg.
Palate
A masterpiece of balance and depth. Velvety and full-bodied with an explosion of dried fruits, orange peel, dark chocolate, and smooth caramel notes. The older vintages contribute a distinctive rancio character, adding nutty and slightly oxidative notes reminiscent of walnut and almond. Underlying spice tones of clove and licorice add further complexity, while the subtle oak influence is seamlessly integrated.
Finish
Long, warm, and impressively layered. The finish lingers for minutes, offering flavors of caramelized nuts, fine tannins, a hint of mocha, and a delicate smokiness. It’s a contemplative and enduring finish that only the most refined eaux-de-vie can provide.
Maison Delord
Delord is one of the most respected names in the world of Armagnac. The house was founded in 1893 by Prosper Delord, a traveling distiller who roamed from village to village with his mobile still, transforming local wines into Armagnac. His passion and craftsmanship remain at the heart of this family business, now led by the fourth generation: Jérôme and Sylvain Delord.
Location and Terroir
Maison Delord is located in the heart of the prestigious Bas-Armagnac region. Their vineyards surround the village of Lannepax, where sandy, iron-rich soils produce elegant, fruity spirits with exceptional aging potential.
Production and Craftsmanship
Delord stands out for its complete control over the entire process – from grape to bottle. They work with traditional grape varieties such as Ugni Blanc, Colombard, Baco, and Folle Blanche.
Distillation is carried out using both a continuous column still (classic for Armagnac) and a pot still, allowing them to create a variety of styles and flavor profiles. The eaux-de-vie then mature for many years, often decades, in their own cellars, aging in local oak barrels until they achieve perfect balance.
Delord Armagnac Style
Delord is renowned for producing smooth, rounded, and refined Armagnacs, beautifully balancing fruit, spice, and oak. In their older vintages, you’ll discover deep, complex aromas of rancio, leather, nuts, and spices that unfold beautifully over time.
