Description

This fifteen-year-old Bas-Armagnac is made entirely from the rare Folle Blanche grape and bottled undiluted at its natural cask strength. Extended maturation brings together candied citrus, honey and dried fruit with pronounced rancio, exotic spices and elegant oak.

Tasting note
Nose

Intense and complex with candied orange, honey and ripe grapes. Madagascar pepper, vanilla and floral notes are followed by hazelnuts, raisins and the refined nutty character of rancio.

Palate

Generous and powerful, yet without harshness. Dried fruit, apple, pineapple and grapes are combined with exotic spices, liquorice and toasted oak. Its full, mouth-coating texture remains vibrant and elegant.

Finish

Exceptionally long and spicy with dried fruits, hazelnuts and rancio. Liquorice, mature leather and warming notes of pepper and toasted oak linger pleasantly.

Domaine Tariquet

Domaine Tariquet is located near Eauze in Bas-Armagnac and has produced Armagnac since 1683. Its family story took an unusual turn in 1912, when Pierre Artaud, a former bear trainer who had sought his fortune in America, purchased the neglected estate with his son Jean-Pierre. Apparently, a detour through New York was required before finding a home in Gascony. From 1946, Hélène Artaud and her husband Pierre Grassa rebuilt the estate, with Armagnac remaining firmly at its heart.

A second revolution followed during the 1980s under their children Maïté and Yves. Fresh white wines gave the estate new momentum, but Armagnac was never pushed aside. Since 2005, Yves’ sons Armin and Rémy, the fifth generation, have managed Domaine Tariquet. The family controls the entire process, from its own vineyards to bottling. Each grape variety is distilled separately in wood-fired alambic stills. The fragile Folle Blanche was replanted from the 1980s onwards, and Tariquet is now its largest producer within Armagnac. The almost forgotten Plant de Graisse was also restored in 2001. This combination of family continuity, scale and commitment to historic grape varieties makes Tariquet exceptional.
