Frapin Cognac VS

The Frapin VS (Very Special) cognac is a younger expression of the house of Frapin, and although it is not aged as long as their older variants, it still carries the refined and elegant character that Frapin is known for. The grapes used to produce this cognac come from their own vineyards in Grande Champagne, a region known for producing the most refined and complex cognacs.

Tasting note

Nose

The nose opens with fresh fruity notes such as grapes, juicy peaches and a hint of apple, typical of younger cognacs. There are also subtle hints of vanilla and oak, coming from aging in French oak barrels. You can also notice floral notes, such as lime and orange blossom, which add a delicate and elegant dimension.

Taste

On the palate, the cognac starts lively and fresh, with a burst of juicy fruits such as peach, pear and apricot. A slight sweetness is present, along with a gentle spiciness of oak and vanilla. The mouthfeel is relatively light but well balanced, making this cognac very accessible to both novice cognac lovers and connoisseurs looking for a fresh, fruity expression.

Finish

Frapin VS is an excellent introduction to the Grande Champagne style, ideal for pure enjoyment but also suitable for mixing in cocktails. This cognac offers a nice balance between freshness, fruit and subtlety, making it a versatile choice for different occasions.

Frapin

The cognac house Frapin is a family business that has been involved in cognac production for more than 20 generations. Located in the Grande Champagne region of Cognac, the heart of the best cognac region, Frapin is one of the few producers that has full control over the entire production process: from grape growing to distilling and maturing the cognac.

History

Frapin has been associated with viticulture since 1270, making them one of the oldest and most renowned names in the world of cognac. The estate where Frapin is based, Château Fontpinot, is located in Segonzac, in the centre of the Grande Champagne region. This region is known as the ‘Premier Cru de Cognac’ because of the exceptional quality of the soil and microclimate, resulting in very refined and elegant cognacs.

Production process

Frapin uses only grapes from their own vineyards, ensuring complete control over quality. They only use Ugni Blanc grapes, which are particularly suitable for distilling cognac. What makes Frapin special is that they double distill their cognacs on the lees, which ensures extra richness and complexity in flavour. Their cognacs are then aged in Limousin oak barrels, which are known for their influence on the development of vanilla and wood tones in the cognac
