Miltonduff 8 years 2015 - 2024 100 Proof Edition #24

Miltonduff 8 years 2015 - 2024 100 Proof Edition #24 is a vibrant and fresh Speyside single malt, bottled by Signatory Vintage at a bold 57.1% ABV (100 Proof). This whisky has been fully matured in first-fill bourbon casks, resulting in a pronounced fruity and creamy character with notes of vanilla, honey, and citrus. Despite its young age, this whisky offers surprising depth and elegance, with a beautiful balance between fresh and spicy notes. A wonderful expression for fans of lively, bourbon-matured whiskies.

Tasting Notes

Nose

Bright and inviting with aromas of green apple, peach, and lemon zest, complemented by notes of vanilla and fresh honey. A subtle floral hint and a light touch of toasted oak add complexity.

Taste

Creamy and fruity with flavors of ripe pear, toffee, and soft caramel. The bourbon cask influence brings spicy accents like cinnamon and a hint of white pepper, while a light almond note adds extra depth.

Finish

Medium-length and fresh, with lingering notes of citrus, vanilla, and soft spice. The light oak influence remains subtly present, leaving an elegant and inviting aftertaste.

Miltonduff Distillery

Miltonduff Distillery is located in the Speyside region, near Elgin in Moray. Founded in 1824, Miltonduff has a rich history of producing high-quality whiskies. Built on the site of an old mill, the distillery uses water from the Black Burn, which contributes to the purity and quality of their whiskies.

Miltonduff whiskies are known for their smooth and elegant character, with notes of honey, apple, pear, and a subtle spiciness.

Miltonduff plays an important role in the production of blended whiskies, particularly Ballantine's, but also offers excellent single malt expressions. The whiskies are mainly matured in ex-bourbon casks, which ensures a balanced and refined flavour.

Signatory Vintage

Signatory Vintage is one of the most respected and recognised independent bottlers in the whisky world. The company was founded in 1988 by Andrew Symington and is based in Pitlochry, Scotland. Signatory Vintage is known for its impressive collection of single malt and single grain whiskies sourced from various Scottish distilleries.

In 2002 Andrew Symington acquired Edradour Distillery, one of the smallest traditional distilleries in Scotland. This has enabled Signatory Vintage to offer exclusive bottlings of Edradour whiskies alongside their regular independent bottlings.

Miltonduff Distillery

Miltonduff was founded in 1824 by Andrew Peary and Robert Bain, on a site near Elgin where the old meal mill of Pluscarden Abbey had once stood. During the nineteenth century, the distillery grew into one of Speyside’s larger producers and even used triple distillation for a period. Miltonduff was acquired by Hiram Walker in 1936, beginning its long association with Ballantine’s. Today, the distillery is part of Chivas Brothers.

An unusual chapter began in 1964, when two Lomond stills were installed. These produced a separate malt whisky named Mosstowie until 1981. Surviving bottlings are now rare and highly sought after by collectors.

Miltonduff forms an important foundation of Ballantine’s and also contributes to other Chivas Brothers blends. As a single malt, it appears only in limited quantities, including releases from independent bottlers and a 15-year-old bottling presented under the Ballantine’s name. The house style is full and warming, with malt, honey, flowers, ripe fruit, cinnamon and gentle liquorice notes.
