Bruichladdich Distillery stands on the western coast of Islay, beside the shores of Loch Indaal. It was built in 1881 by the brothers William, John and Robert Harvey. Unlike many older distilleries, Bruichladdich did not evolve from a farm but was purpose built as a modern Victorian whisky distillery. Its subsequent history was turbulent, with several owners and long periods of silence. Bruichladdich closed again in 1994, but a celebrated revival followed in 2001 under an independent group and whisky maker Jim McEwan.

Since reopening, Bruichladdich has become known for transparency, provenance and experimentation. Much of the original Victorian equipment remains in use, and the spirit is distilled slowly. The Bruichladdich name is used for unpeated single malts with a floral and fruity character. The same distillery also produces the heavily peated Port Charlotte and the intensely peated Octomore. Barley variety, growing location, cask selection and maturation all play a central role. The whisky matures on Islay and is bottled there without chill filtration or added colouring, using spring water from the island.

The Auld Alliance is a Singapore-based whisky bar and independent bottler founded in 2010 by whisky expert, collector and writer Emmanuel Dron. What began as a bar with an exceptional selection of old and rare whiskies developed into an internationally recognised destination for enthusiasts of distinctive spirits.

Its own bottlings are selected with a clear preference for quality, character and rarity. The Auld Alliance focuses mainly on single cask whisky, while also choosing exceptional casks of rum, Cognac, Armagnac and Calvados. The emphasis is not on volume, but on spirits that offer something distinctive through their provenance, maturation or historical significance.

Over the years, releases have included whisky from renowned, closed and less frequently bottled distilleries. The close relationship between bar and bottler plays an important role: knowledge is built by tasting old bottles, comparing styles and sharing remarkable casks with visitors. The Auld Alliance therefore brings collecting, tasting and independent cask selection together within one distinctive Asian whisky house.
