Ledaig 2011 - 2025 #6987 The Whisky Jury

This release from The Whisky Jury showcases Ledaig’s raw maritime character at its finest. Distilled in 2011 on the Isle of Mull and matured for over thirteen years in a second fill hogshead, it brings together peat, sea and malt in perfect harmony. Bottled at a robust 56%, it delivers full power and depth while retaining the refinement The Whisky Jury is renowned for.

Tasting Notes

Nose

Intense and vibrant with an immediate wave of medicinal peat, ash and sea spray. Notes of smoked lemon, tar and damp rope emerge, followed by softer hints of honey and vanilla from the second fill cask. With air, green apple, malt and a touch of olives and leather appear. The peat is strong but balanced by a coastal freshness that keeps everything lively and focused.

Palate

Full-bodied and oily with an assertive burst of peat smoke and ash up front. Flavours of salted caramel, citrus peel and toasted malt follow, driven by the lively 56% strength which adds texture and brightness without harshness. There’s a striking balance between smoky and sweet, with notes of black pepper, wet stone and a hint of seaweed. As it opens, the whisky deepens with a warm, smoky richness and subtle oak spice.

Finish

Long, smoky and coastal. Peat, salt and citrus linger with underlying hints of honey and vanilla. Towards the end, gentle ash, charred wood and mineral freshness give a clean, satisfying close.

A bold yet graceful Ledaig that proves how power and poise can coexist — a whisky where smoke meets sophistication in perfect balance.

Tobermory Distillery

Tobermory Distillery is located on the picturesque harbour of Tobermory on the Isle of Mull, on the west coast of Scotland. Founded in 1798, it is one of the oldest distilleries in Scotland and has a rich history with periods of closure and re-opening.

A specific feature of Tobermory Distillery is the production of two different types of whisky: the non-peated Tobermory and the heavily peated Ledaig.

Tobermory whisky is known for its fruity and floral character with notes of citrus and honey, while Ledaig whisky is characterised by its robust, smoky flavour with hints of pepper, sea salt and leather. Maturation takes place in a combination mix of bourbon and sherry casks, creating a rich and complex flavour.

The combination of an idyllic location, a long and rich history, and a diverse range of whiskies makes Tobermory Distillery a respected and beloved name in the world of Scotch whisky.
