Plantation Extra Old 20th Anniversary
Plantation Extra Old 20th Anniversary is a luxurious rum created to celebrate twenty years of Maison Ferrand’s collaboration with the Caribbean. It is a blend of carefully selected Barbadian rums aged up to 20 years. The ageing process begins in ex-bourbon casks in Barbados and continues with a secondary maturation in small French oak casks in the cool cellars of Château de Bonbonnet in France. The result is a sumptuous, silky rum that balances elegance and depth beautifully.
Tasting Notes
Nose
The nose opens warm and complex, with rich aromas of vanilla, coconut, roasted nuts and ripe tropical fruit. Notes of cocoa, tobacco and orange peel add an extra dimension, while gentle oak tones tie it all together.
Palate
Smooth, creamy and refined on the palate. Flavours of banana, coconut cream, prunes and raisins blend beautifully with spicy notes of cinnamon, clove and a hint of pepper. The texture is soft yet full, with a distinct balance between fruit, spice and oak.
Finish
The finish is long, rounded and lingering. Vanilla, toasted wood and a touch of mocha remain on the tongue, with an elegant, almost dessert-like softness. A rum that continues to unfold, sip after sip.
Plantation Rum
Plantation Rum is a well-known and respected brand name in the world of rum, owned by Maison Ferrand, a French company that also produces other spirits such as cognac and gin. The name "Plantation" refers to the traditional sugar cane plantations where rum was originally produced. Under the leadership of Alexandre Gabriel, who has run the company since the 1990s, Plantation Rum has developed into one of the leading brands in the premium rum category.
One of Plantation Rum's distinguishing features is the use of a double maturation technique. After the first maturation in the tropics, the rum is transported to France, where it undergoes a second maturation in former cognac barrels at Maison Ferrand. This double maturation adds complexity and depth to the rum's flavour profiles. Planteray is an alternative brand name used by Maison Ferrand from 2024 to adapt their branding to modern sensibilities. The content and craftsmanship remain the same, while maintaining an emphasis on quality and authenticity.
