Hoppe is a historic Dutch genever brand with roots in Amsterdam. Its story begins around 1780, when Pieter Hoppe settled in the Jordaan district and took over a wine business on Egelantiersgracht. After becoming a citizen of Amsterdam in 1804, he was able to establish himself as an independent distiller. From these beginnings, Hoppe developed into a recognised producer of genever and other spirits.

The growth of the company led to expansion into Schiedam during the 19th century, at the time the most important centre of the Dutch genever industry. In 1858, a new distillery opened on Nieuwe Haven. From then on, the Hoppe name became closely associated with both Amsterdam and Schiedam and with the classic Dutch genever tradition.

Through acquisitions and changes within the spirits industry, the original independent distillery eventually disappeared, but the Hoppe brand survived. It remains part of the Dutch genever portfolio of Lucas Bols. Hoppe Jonge Jenever in particular keeps the historic name alive, representing an approachable style within a brand history spanning more than two centuries of Dutch distilling culture.
