Description
Metaxa 5 Stars is an iconic Greek spirit that gracefully balances between brandy and liqueur. Since 1888, Metaxa has been known for its unique, sun-kissed character, and the 5 Stars edition perfectly embodies this spirit. It’s a harmonious blend of hand-selected Muscat wines from Samos, fine wine distillates, and a secret mix of Mediterranean botanicals. The result is a smooth, approachable, and characterful drink perfect for any occasion. Metaxa 5 Stars can be enjoyed neat or on the rocks, but it also shines in cocktails like a Metaxa Tonic or a classic Metaxa Sour.

Metaxa

Metaxa is one of the best known Greek spirits in the world and was created by Spyros Metaxa in 1888. A few years earlier, he had acquired an old distillery in Piraeus, where he experimented with wine distillates and sweet Muscat wines. His aim was not to produce a traditional brandy, but to create a distinctive Greek spirit of his own. By around 1900, Metaxa was already being exported to the United States and the brand gradually expanded far beyond Greece.

The distinctive identity of Metaxa is built around three elements: matured wine distillates, sweet Muscat wines from islands in the Aegean Sea and an aromatic blend of Mediterranean herbs and botanicals. These different components are selected and brought together by the Metaxa Master, with maturation and blending playing an important role.

In 1968, production moved from Piraeus to Kifissia near Athens, and Metaxa became part of Rémy Cointreau in 2000. Well known expressions such as Metaxa 5 Stars, 7 Stars and 12 Stars present the characteristic style at different levels of maturation and complexity. Metaxa therefore occupies a category of its own between wine distillate, matured spirit and Greek herbal tradition.
