Longrow 21 years - 2022 Edition
The Longrow 21 years - 2022 Edition is a remarkable whisky for those who appreciate rich, smoky flavors and layered complexity. Produced by the Springbank distillery, this 21-year-old whisky has been fully matured in carefully selected bourbon and sherry casks. This aging imparts a unique balance of smoky intensity, gentle sweetness, and deep fruity notes. The extended maturation delivers impressive refinement and complexity, harmonizing the influences of peat, oak, and the maritime environment of Campbeltown. It’s a whisky that invites exploration, perfect for anyone seeking a dram with depth and character.
Tasting note
Nose
The nose opens with a warm, earthy smoke that immediately evokes a cozy fireplace. Beneath this are subtle notes of dark fruits, such as plums and cherries, combined with hints of vanilla and butterscotch. There’s also a light saltiness and a touch of leather, adding an extra layer to the aroma.
Taste
On the palate, this whisky is full-bodied and powerful. The peat smoke is prominent but not overwhelming, beautifully balanced by sweet notes of honey and caramelized apple. There are also hints of roasted almonds and a touch of pepper, which adds a pleasant warmth. The combination of bourbon and sherry cask influences adds depth with spicy notes of cinnamon and a rich, creamy texture.
Finish
The finish is long and satisfying. The smokiness lingers, along with flavors of dark chocolate, dried fruits, and a slight salty undertone that enhances the Campbeltown character. As the smokiness fades, a soft sweetness remains, inviting another sip.
Springbank distillery
Springbank Distillery is located in Campbeltown, a historic whisky region on Scotland's Kintyre Peninsula. Founded in 1828 by the Mitchell family, it is one of the oldest independent distilleries in Scotland and one of the few remaining distilleries in Campbeltown, once known as the "whisky capital of the world."
Springbank Distillery is unique in its complete control over the production process, with all steps - from malting to bottling - taking place on one site. The distillery produces three different single malt whiskies: Springbank, Hazelburn and Longrow.
Springbank whisky is lightly peated and partially triple-distilled, creating a complex and rich flavour profile with notes of fruit, saltiness and a subtle smokiness. Hazelburn is unpeated and triple-distilled, making it a smooth, delicate whisky with light, sweet and malty notes. Longrow is heavily peated and double-distilled, resulting in a robust and smoky whisky with rich, earthy flavours.
The diversity in production methods and flavour profiles makes Springbank Distillery a unique and valued player in the whisky world.
