The Springbank 10 years 2009 - 2019 Local Barley is a rare gem in the Local Barley series and a tribute to the age-old traditions of Springbank and the Campbeltown region. With a limited release of just 9,000 bottles, this whisky offers a unique chance to taste the character of locally grown barley. Distilled in 2009 and bottled in 2019, this whisky has spent ten years in carefully selected casks, resulting in a beautiful balance of earthy undertones, sweet fruit notes, and refined peat smoke. It’s a dram that is both accessible and complex, perfect for those who want to explore the rich flavors Campbeltown has to offer.

Tasting note

Nose

The nose is fresh and inviting, with notes of green apple, peach, and a hint of lemon zest. Earthy aromas and light floral hints are accompanied by a subtle touch of honey and vanilla, while a gentle saltiness and light smoke add depth to the aroma.

Taste

On the palate, this whisky is full-bodied and rich, with a harmonious blend of malty tones, nutty accents, and a light, fruity sweetness of ripe pear and apricot. The soft peat smoke is elegantly woven into the flavor, adding layered complexity. There are also hints of toffee and a subtle spiciness from white pepper that adds a pleasant warmth.

Finish

The finish is long and satisfying, with lingering malty tones and a hint of oak. As the smoke fades, salty and slightly fruity accents remain, creating a refined and well-balanced aftertaste that invites another sip.

Springbank distillery

Springbank Distillery is located in Campbeltown, a historic whisky region on Scotland's Kintyre Peninsula. Founded in 1828 by the Mitchell family, it is one of the oldest independent distilleries in Scotland and one of the few remaining distilleries in Campbeltown, once known as the "whisky capital of the world."

Springbank Distillery is unique in its complete control over the production process, with all steps - from malting to bottling - taking place on one site. The distillery produces three different single malt whiskies: Springbank, Hazelburn and Longrow.

Springbank whisky is lightly peated and partially triple-distilled, creating a complex and rich flavour profile with notes of fruit, saltiness and a subtle smokiness. Hazelburn is unpeated and triple-distilled, making it a smooth, delicate whisky with light, sweet and malty notes. Longrow is heavily peated and double-distilled, resulting in a robust and smoky whisky with rich, earthy flavours.

The diversity in production methods and flavour profiles makes Springbank Distillery a unique and valued player in the whisky world.
