Glencadam 1974 - 1991 Connoisseurs Choice

This Glencadam was distilled in 1974 and was bottled in the Connoisseurs Choice series by Gordon & MacPhail in 1991 after some 17 years of maturation in oak casks. This series has been around since the late 1970s and has changed labels regularly. Colloquially, this version is called 'old map label'.

Tasting note

Nose

On the nose, lots of green notes combined with sherry tones. Hints of mint and even a little smoke are detected.

Taste

Mild and powerful and even a little creamy. Here, in addition to the pleasant sherry character, tropical fruits like orange. Hint of ginger provides some bitterness and also nuts and then more zoomed in almonds.

Finish

Medium-bodied with dryness and soft bitters from the wood.

More about Glencadam Distillery

Glencadam Distillery is a Scottish whisky distillery located in the Highland region, near the town of Brechin in Angus, Scotland. The distillery was founded in 1825, making it one of the older distilleries in Scotland. The name 'Glencadam' is derived from 'Glen of Cadam', meaning valley of Cadam.

Over the years, Glencadam has had different owners and production has stopped and restarted periods. The distillery is known for its relatively small production capacity and producing a light, fruity and elegant style of single malt whisky. This is achieved by using traditional distillation methods and pot stills with a unique shape.

Glencadam's whiskies are often used in blends, but they also offer their own range of single malt whiskies, available in a variety of age statements and cask finishes. These single malts are appreciated for their finesse and balance, and they gather a loyal following among whisky lovers.
