Macduff Distillery
Macduff Distillery is located on the banks of the River Deveron, near the town of Macduff in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. Founded in 1962 by a group of local entrepreneurs, the distillery is a relatively young player in the world of Scotch whisky. Despite its young age, Macduff has quickly made a name for itself with its quality single malts.
A unique feature of Macduff Distillery is its use of a modern, innovative approach combined with traditional techniques. The distillery has five stills, of which the so-called lyne arms have a sharp downward angle, contributing to the whisky's light and fruity character. Distillery bottlings are marketed under the name The Deveron and are known for their smooth and accessible flavour profiles.
The whisky is mainly matured in ex-bourbon and sherry casks, ensuring a nice balance between sweetness and complexity. Macduff whiskies have notes of apple, vanilla, honey and a subtle spiciness. The combination of innovative production and a picturesque location makes Macduff Distillery a respected name in the world of Scotch single malt whisky.
Adelphi Distillery Limited
Adelphi Distillery Limited is an independent bottler of mainly Scotch Single Malt whiskies, known for its high quality and limited editions. Besides Scotch whisky, they sometimes make forays into other whisky countries, but rum and armagnac can also be found in Adelphi Distillery Limited's portfolio. The company has a rich history dating back to the 19th century and is today a respected name in the whisky world.
History and Origins
- Establishment: The original Adelphi Distillery was founded in 1826 in the Gorbals, a district in Glasgow, Scotland. The distillery produced a wide range of whiskies, both single malts and grain whiskies.
- Closure and revival: The original distillery closed in the early 20th century. In the 1990s, the Adelphi name was revived by Jamie Walker, a descendant of the original owners. Since then, Adelphi has focused on bottling high-quality, rare spirits.
